In 1611 William Robson, a member of the Salters Co. leased patent rights to make glass in Ireland & from 1614 there was considerable prodution, with much being exported to London. According to court records, the glass making ceased in 1618, probably due to patent problems. In 1619, Pynnar's description of Salterstown records "the Glass Houses are gone to decay & utterly undone". A field near Salterstown is still known as the Glass-House field.

ANT 049:073
The exact site of this village remains unlocated. It was described in the OS memoirs as extending E & nearly parallel to the shore for c.quarter of a mile. According to a booklet published by Shanes Castle Estate, the village adjoined Shanes Castle [049:029] & it is depicted in an C18th painting of the castle. Inspection of the area adjoining the castle to E revealed no visible remains. The booklet also states that the village was removed shortly before 1780 & rebuilt in the adjoining townland, where there is a row of small houses.
